Cold in Yiddish

Kalt vi ayz Cold as ice

Cold as outdoors

kalt vi in a lodovnye Cold as in an icebox (or refrigerator)

Es nemt afrost It is freezing cold.

Es blost a vint The wind is blowing.

Es klapt a tson in a tson My teeth are chattering.

Es varft a kadokhes It causes ague (kadokhes).

Es nemt adurkh di beyner It goes through your bones.

Es nemt bizn markh fun di beyner It goes through to the marrow of your bones.

Es fargeyt untern hartsn It penetrates to your heart.

Zint Got handlt mit frost, iz nokh aza frost nit geven!

Since God has been dealing with cold weather there hasn’t been cold weather like this!

Frost shmost. At least we have central heating. Things were harder in China.
In 1922, Walter Lippmann said, “The rich and vulgar and pretentious Jews of our big American cities … are the real fountain of anti-Semitism…. You cannot build up a decent civilization among people who, when they are at last, after centuries of denial, free to go to the land and cleanse their bodies, now huddle together in a steam-heated slum” cited in Ronald Steel’s "Walter Lippmann and the American Century."

LOL! I love this, especially the last one. I'm glad it's supposed to warm up a little in the next few days.

Hey, I noticed your blog, liked some of these posts! Would you mind if we republished some of these articles in our newsletter or on our own site? It’s mainly a site for industry professionals in food/beverage, but I think a lot of them simply love every part of the world and would enjoy reading your blog. Let me know? I’ve linked to our site so you can see it.

Warming up is necessary to the cold places if you won't do this you would die to freeze.
