I love this photo! No idea what a pillow block is, but the dictionary says: A block that encloses and supports a journal or shaft; a bearing.

thanks for this. It seems that pillow blocks are metal, not leather, and they are used to grip things. Nothing discernibly pillowy or blocky about them.
